Validation of Fat/Water MRI

  • Non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a promising modality for assessing body fat, as it provides sensitive mechanisms to differentiate lean tissue from lipids.

  • The hypothesis of this project is that measurements of hepatic and pancreatic fat fraction derived from 3D IDEAL-SPGR MRI pulse sequence will correlate strongly with those obtained from the traditional single-voxel MRS.

  • The advantages to the IDEAL method over single-voxel NMR spectroscopy include greater speed, resolution, coverage and ease-of-use.
